I have been trying to say this for days, months actually, but every time I try, it goes very badly and I can't waste any more time. I must be brave or else I will spend the rest of my life worrying and hating myself for being a coward. Fortune, after all, favours the bold.
[Yes, he's not wasting his time doing anything fancy this time, he's not mixing his words. He's just going for it. Straight up, launching right at him as soon as Edward is in the room.]
Now please, keep in mind, if you should wish not to proceed forward with me, I am happy to remain friends. I cherish what we have together, you must know this.
Okaaay... [Edward looks down at Oswald - not as a statement, Oswald is just really short - and tries to figure out what exactly this is leading up to. So far he's coming up empty.]
I cherish what we have too, Oswald. You know that.
Edward, you see. Before we came here, I began to experience... feelings. And I have tried to see whether or not they are real, I have tried to see if I can't move on but I can not. Not until I say this.
[He moves in closer, reaches out and touches his arm, smiling at him.] My mother always said that life only gives you one true love. And I know for a fact that I have found mine.
[Edward covers Oswald's hand with one of his own and gives it a gentle squeeze, trying to offer some comfort. It's easy to remember how to do it, especially for Oswald's sake. He actually cares about making him feel better.]
[Okay, no, don't get angry. This is a love confession, a beautiful moment. He bites back any remark he has and leans in closer, trying to give him a hint -- before he gives up and outright says it.]
[A few moments pass wherein he just stares at Oswald, trying to compute this. It's not something he's expected. It is not something that has ever before happened to him, not like this.
Finally be blinks, his mind still trying to work through it.]
[Okay, not the worst reaction. Still not the best either. He takes a moment to breathe and try to adjust his thinking because he didn't expect this.]
I-I didn't realise I would have to bullet point why. Edward, I love you because you're a brilliant man. You're intelligent, you're cunning, you cut a fine figure in a suit. [He smiles somewhat playfully before getting a little too nervous. Shit, what if later he's accused of objectifying him? DAMN. He shouldn't have said that.] And--And you are the first person in my life who has truly been such a dear friend, I can trust you and I know you have my best interests at heart.
[He looks down himself, as if trying to see that alleged fine figure he's cutting, letting go of Oswald's hand to adjusting his suit jacket, suddenly a little self-conscious about his looks, which isn't something he's very accustomed to.]
Your best interests. Yes.
[That much he can be certain about. Edward reaches out and puts his hands on Oswald's shoulders, leaning down so he can catch his eyes.]
[Oh no. He made Edward uncomfortable. This wasn't going well, was it? His heart was racing in his chest and he was feeling that familiar 'oh fuck' feeling as he stood there, wishing he knew what Edward was thinking.
[Oh dear. Edward has to focus to keep his breathing to a normal rhythm and the look in Oswald's eyes is not helping matters. He does not have a response, he realises. At least not one that Oswald will want to hear.
He has to think.]
I'll be right back. Or 'brb', abbreviated.
[With that he turns and opens the door.]
Bye-bye.
[He quickly steps out and closes the door behind himself.
Backdated to valentine's day
It's difficult and uncomfortable discussing it with you but I think it's about time we talked.

Do you want me to bring anything?

As soon as possible, if you'd please.

[He is indeed on his way and so it's not that much later that he unlocks the door and steps in, perhaps looking a little paler than usual.]
Oswald?
[Walking inside, he locates the man and gives him a curt nod.]
Hi.

You, Edward. It's you. I'm in love with you.

He has to text Harley.]
