Not quite on time, but close enough. Choosing the right wine took a lot of deliberation and Edward didn't like to make wrong choices. He hadn't made a lot in his life, but he wasn't exactly proud of the ones he had made. Hence being a few minutes late in exchange for having found the perfect wine wasn't too much of a sacrifice to make.
Of course he had chosen the wine in accordance to the menu, having talked to Oswald's cook without the man's knowledge, not that he'd hide that fact from him. He just doubted that Oswald would really care to know and there was no reason for him to, Edward's desire to ensure that ever detail in the man's life was perfectly in place was self-motivated, he didn't require praise or even Oswald's awareness of all the immaculate planning that went into it.
He liked doing this for him. What did make him uneasy was that he actually couldn't seem to predict just what Oswald wanted to tell him today. A riddle without answer so far, but he had the suspicion that it had to have something to do with emotions. He was much better with reason and logic, those he would have put together by now.
As it was, he was a little tense and stiffer than he had to be when he walked into the dining room, presenting the wine with a flourish.
"Sometimes I think you should kill him, he's entirely too touchy with our allies and enemies and he clearly knows what that does to me." Oswald was, of course, referring to Edward. Edward who was, of course, standing right in front of him as Oswald ran him down. Like the class act he was. He loved him, he really did but deep down, Oswald was a petty, irrational and jealous man sometimes who made Edward's life considerably awkward just for smiling at people.
This weeks offence? He put his arm around Harvey Dent during a meeting with the lawyer and, in Oswald's eyes, he flirted pretty hard. Smiling, being polite, giving him his number for future contacts. That dog.
Though as he stood there, complaining and threatening Edward's life for smiling and touching another person, there was Oswald - smiling and touching another person. Specifically Butch. Who was probably deeply regretting coming back to work with them. "You should respect me more."
